What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.10
──> Memory Requirements Reduced!
QwkSlave Version 1.10 reduces the memory requirements needed
to run QwkSlave. This will assist users attempting to use
QwkSlave on memory-limited computer systems. For a complete
list of revisions, see the file QWKSLAVE.REV.
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.09
──> Maintenance Release
QwkSlave Version 1.09 fixes a couple of minor problems
introduced in version 1.08, where the Delete and Modify
operations were issuing an error #8101 (Record Modified).
For a complete list of revisions, see the file QWKSLAVE.REV.
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.08
──> Feature Enhancements!!!
QwkSlave Version 1.08 adds several EXTREMELY useful feature
enhancements. The searching capability has been enhanced to
allow users to specify two search strings during a "Search
Entire Message" search. Users can select whether QwkSlave
filters messages with only String #1, String #1 AND String
#2, or String #1 OR String #2. Also, after the search has
been completed, the search string(s) are now highlighted in
the memo window using a different color, making it MUCH
easier to find the needed text! A default import path has
been added to specify a directory to log to when importing
QWK mail packets.
This version of QwkSlave also contains compression for the
message databases, reducing each message database size by
approximately 10-20%. Users upgrading from a previous
version of QwkSlave who want to use the compression should
perform 2 steps. First, make sure the "Compress Message
Data" option is enabled on the Defaults screen. Next,
select the "Reorganize Database" option from the Settings
menu. When QwkSlave displays the file dialog box, select
the database you want to reorganize. After several prompts,
QwkSlave will reorganize the database, using the new built-
in compression. (To see the amount of space saved by
reorganizing a database, users can simply view the activity
log file.)
Also a minor bug has been fixed where multiple responses to
a message were not being located properly when a non-default
sort field was being used. For a complete list of revisions
and changes, see the file QWKSLAVE.REV.
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.07
──> Maintenance Release.
QwkSlave Version 1.07 is a simple maintenance release that
has added some user-requested features. When deleting a
message, QwkSlave no longer resets to the first record in
Page 1
the database, but simply advances to the next record. When
the "Search Entire Message" option is selected from the
search dialog box, QwkSlave creates the temporary search
database in a temporary directory such as TEMP0001,
TEMP0002, etc., not in the main program directory. Other
minor issues were also addressed, such as limiting
simultaneous network access to the number of actual
registered users.
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.06
──> Maintenance Release / Problem Fix.
A problem has been fixed where QwkSlave would not also
display all of the available message conferences in the
import pick list. (Conference numbers that contained an
embedded 0 in the index file conference name triggered the
problem. See QWKSLAVE.REV for more information.)
Additional Note to QwkSlave users: When QwkSlave displays
available conferences in the import pick list, it only
displays conferences that actually have messages in them.
If a conference is empty, it is not displayed in the import
pick list.)
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.05
──> Enhanced Searching Capability!
The searching capability of QwkSlave has been enhanced.
Previously, when a user selected the "Search Entire Record"
option and specified the search string, it would be possible
for QwkSlave to "miss" an occurrence of the search string if
it was wrapped between lines due to a line break. This
potential problem has been addressed, since QwkSlave now
takes into account all possible combinations of line breaks
in a user-specified string.
──> Minor fix on the import pick list screen.
A problem existed on the Import pick list when more than 10
conferences were listed. If the highlight bar was located
on the last item, clicking on the down arrow would not cause
the pick list to move to the next item. It would "stick",
thus giving the impression that only 10 conferences were
listed. (These remaining conferences could be accessed by
pressing the down arrow or PgDn keys, but they did not
appear if the user simply clicked on the down arrow of the
scroll bar.)
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.04
──> New Option To Change Default Date Format.
QwkSlave Version 1.04 adds the ability for users to change
the date format used when viewing database messages.
Available formats are mm-dd-yy (01-31-95), dd-mm-yy (31-01-
95), and
dd-nnn-yy (31-Jan-95). (This feature will be appreciated by
our foreign users.) This setting can be changed from the
Settings, Defaults menu.

──> Minor fixes / enhancements.
Two minor problems were addressed in this version of
QwkSlave. First, an error message stating "Line Too
Long..." was noted when reading messages with text lines
longer than 80 characters. The maximum line length has been
increased to 128 characters. Also, the default import mask
(*.QWK) has been changed to (*.QW?). Users should also
notice a significant change in the appearance of QwkSlave's
status screens.
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.03
──> New Option To Tag Multiple Records For Deletion.
QwkSlave Version 1.03 adds an enhanced browser, allowing
users to tag multiple records for deletion. The Standard
browser allows users to see all records in a table format
and pick one for viewing, while the new, Enhanced browser,
allows users to select multiple records and optionally
delete them.
──> Minor problem fixes.
This version of QwkSlave also fixes a few minor problems.
The most obvious problem fixed was one where the Limit
Search option (selected from the Search Entire Message
screen) was not functioning properly. An error message was
being issued, stating that the search string could not be
found, when it was obvious that the search had not even been
attempted. For a complete list of changes, please read the
file QWKSLAVE.REV.
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.02
──> Extended 25, 28, 43, or 50 line text modes!
QwkSlave Version 1.02 contains the ability to use extended
text modes on VGA monitors. This allows users to view more
of the text of each message without needing to scroll the
message window.
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.01
──> Feature Enhancements!
Version 1.01 of QwkSlave contains several enhancements, such
as the ability to import only messages To and/or From
specific users. A default startup file can now be specified
to instruct QwkSlave which database file should be opened
each time QwkSlave is executed. (The command line can be
used to load a different file, instead of the default
startup file.)
──> Minor Problem Fixes.
Version 1.01 also contains a few problem fixes. A problem
has been fixed when attempting to import MESSAGE.DAT files
larger than 4 megabytes in size. (Users would have seen a
RunTime error #100 when scanning the MESSAGES.DAT file, as a
result of this problem.) Also, an incompatibility problem
Page 3
with QWK packets from some (older-style) doors has been
fixed. (The conference numbers did not match, which would
cause 0 records to be imported. Some users might have seen
this as a RunTime error #200.)
What's New in QwkSlave Version 1.00
──> Initial Release of QwkSlave!
STSI proudly announces the release of QwkSlave into the
shareware market! QwkSlave imports QWK mail packets,
storing each message as a database record. Add, edit,
delete, and print messages. Search the entire database for
key words or phrases. Sort the database on any one of ten
different fields. Cross referencing makes finding an
original message and its response as easy as a mouse-click!
Make those messages work for you! QwkSlave is ideal as a
technical support reference tool. Network support is
included. Easy push-button interface with mouse support.
